GENRE: Arvon City, Fiction, Non-Fiction & Life Writing & Poetry
Are you a refugee or asylum seeker based in Manchester?
Do you like writing stories and poems, or have a desire to express yourself with words?
We have just the opportunity for you to develop your creative writing with the support of professional writers.
Arvon is joining up with Hidden Stories and The Portico Library in Manchester, to help you find time and space to write. Hidden Stories is all about helping your hidden stories and talents come to surface.
Come join us for an immersive writing experience over a weekend, a powerful mix of workshops, one-to-one feedback, the support of fellow writers and plenty of time and space to write. Hidden Stories founder and writer Anjum Malik and writer Louise Wallwein will help kick-start your imagination, give you the tools to explore your own stories and show you how to capture them. This will also be a very special opportunity to explore The Portico Library’s wondrous historic collection of 19th century books.
From 10am to 8pm on Friday 11 November, 11am to 8pm on Saturday 12 November and 11am to 4.30pm on Sunday 13 November.
Numbers are restricted to 12, please book early. The venue is accessible via a staircase and a chairlift is available for anyone with limited mobility, but unfortunately there is no elevator. Lunch, refreshments, and dinner on Friday and Saturday evening will be provided, and you’ll get to know and work with others in a friendly and supportive environment. The course is FREE thanks to project funding.
Who can apply?
Refugees and asylum seekers based in Manchester of all abilities and writing interests welcome, whether you have writing experience, or wish to try creative writing for the first time. We especially want to hear from people with disabilities and people who feel they would not normally have this opportunity to write.
