Weaving real-life events into an engaging story

GENRE: Non-Fiction & Life Writing
Lumb Bank

This course will concentrate on building an engaging non-fiction narrative, on weaving every day events into a good story and on conveying real-life situations in an authentic way. It will demonstrate how using story structure, dialogue and characterisation can bring non-fiction to life and help to tell ‘true stories’ in an exciting and engaging way.  Equally appropriate for the writer of memoirs, life writing, history writing, travel writing and nature writing amongst others, this course will also teach you what to leave out from your narrative and help you discern what is essential information without drowning your reader in unnecessary facts and figures.

Read tutor Lois Pryce tips on writing non-fiction and travel memoirs.
