Along with our grants, we offer a number of opportunities throughout the year to Writers. We also look out for writing opportunities which might be of interest.
Foyles Young Poets Competition
Win an Arvon Course
The Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award is the biggest award for writers aged 11-17. It welcomes poems on any theme and entry is completely free.
Winners receive a fantastic range of prizes, including one of our residential courses, Poetry Society membership, and books. The Poetry Society also continues to support winners’ development with performance, publication and internship opportunities.
Penguin Random House Mentoring Programme for underrepresented writers
Through WriteNow Penguin random House is looking for new writers from a socio-economically marginalised background, LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer) and BAME (Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic) writers, or writers with a disability, to help make books and publishing more representative of the society we live in.
At the heart of the campaign are three insight days in London (9 September), Bristol (16 September) and Newcastle (23 September) where 150 writers will have the opportunity to get one-to-one feedback on their work from an editor, and meet literary agents and published authors. More info and applications here – https://www.penguinrandomhouse.co.uk/work-with-us/authors/writenow/
10 of those writers will then be invited to join a year-long mentoring programme, working with a Penguin Random House editor to develop their manuscript.
