Arvon has appointed Patricia Cumper as its new Chair.
Andrew Kidd, Chief Executive of Arvon, said: ‘Arvon is deeply fortunate to have such a wonderful new Chair in Pat Cumper. Pat’s illustrious career as a writer, producer, director and cultural commentator – and her wide experience as an arts trustee for organisations including English Touring Theatre, the Utopia Theatre Company and the British Museum – make her a dream appointment in every respect. All of us at Arvon, staff and trustees alike, are looking forward to working closely with Pat, as we undertake a major redevelopment project for our northern house, Lumb Bank, consolidate our new online offer, Arvon at Home, and roll out a new strand of direct community engagement, while continuing to deliver our celebrated residential writing courses at three historic houses across England.’
Pat Cumper said: ‘The stories we tell and the skill with which we tell them grow ever more important in today’s world. I’ve known about and admired Arvon and the work it does with writers at all stages of their careers and across genres for decades. Today Arvon’s work is more valuable than ever, whether it is offering opportunities for initial creative expression or supporting professional writers to hone and polish their work. To chair their board is an honour, and I am very aware of the responsibility it entails. I am delighted to support the work of a wonderful, dedicated team not only to continue to deliver their established courses and residencies but also in broadening Arvon’s offer both online and with the redevelopment of Lumb Bank.’
Kim Evans, trustee and Chair of the Appointments Committee, said: ‘The trustees are delighted that Pat Cumper has joined the Board as our new Chair. She is a wonderful writer and producer who has held executive and governance roles in a wide range of arts organisations. Her leadership, informed by her love of writing and her understanding of how to encourage and connect with writers from all backgrounds, will undoubtedly help us deliver on our commitment to make Arvon ever more inclusive and welcoming.’
