Arvon announces programme for screenwriters from working-class backgrounds 

Arvon is delighted to announce the Arvon Screenwriting Programme, supported by Prime Video Pathway.

This new two-year talent development programme will support five emerging screenwriters from working-class and lower socio-economic backgrounds. The programme will give writers the time, space and support to develop their screenwriting practice, gain insight into the TV industry, and work towards completing a strong spec script. 

Arvon will bring together a cohort of writers for a combination of residential and online writing courses, one-to-one mentoring, Masterclasses and industry advice sessions. Participants will work with professional screenwriters, script editors and industry experts, developing their work while building a peer network and gaining a deeper understanding of the contemporary scripted drama and comedy-drama landscapes.

About the Arvon Screenwriting Programme 

Made possible thanks to the generous support of Prime Video Pathway, the Arvon Screenwriting Programme will provide each writer with: 

• One five-day residential writing course, led by professional screenwriters, taking place from 12–17 April 2027 at The Hurst, Arvon’s writing house in Shropshire. Writers will benefit from morning group workshops, afternoon one-to-one tutorials, evening Q&A sessions with guest speakers, and dedicated time and space to write. 

• One five-day residential tutored retreat, led by a professional screenwriter and a script editor 

• An actors’ workshop in Year Two, providing an opportunity to hear extracts of their work performed by professional actors   

• Six online Masterclasses with leading industry figures 

• Two online writing days led by a professional screenwriter  

• Three online industry advice sessions with casting directors, agents, producers, and other industry professionals 

• One-to-one mentoring sessions 

• Access to Arvon’s online writing resources 

Through this combination of creative development, industry insight and sustained support, the Arvon Screenwriting Programme will help writers develop a strong spec script, build valuable industry knowledge and connections, and gain the confidence to take the next step in their screenwriting careers.  

The scheme is free to take part in. Arvon will also cover participants’ travel costs and provide a small fund towards additional costs incurred through spending three weeks away from home.
