Finding language for a living world

GENRE: Non-Fiction & Life Writing & Poetry
Lumb Bank

This week is about paying attention to the natural world, intended for writers who want to engage with nature, and also for naturalists who want to write. Using modern examples, we will encourage you to express your innate observational and listening skills in both poetry and nonfiction. How do we observe, and what is worth looking at? How do we turn observation into language, and language into poetry? What is ‘nature writing’ anyway, when the natural world is under sustained pressure? Is it escapism, or is it deeply political? Come prepared to write and discuss.
