How do poems think?

GENRE: Poetry
The Hurst

William Carlos Williams said ‘No ideas but in things’. Considering this and the close relationship between the discursive and the numinous, we will look at how poets of the past and present have explored philosophical, theological and political ideas, and how we can meet the challenge of making poems ‘think’ without being in thrall to their designs. This week will appeal to ambitious poets of any level who want to explore how to incorporate
bigger ideas into their poems and write with deeper intellectual commitment.
