Arvon at Home offers inspiring online courses designed to fit around everyday life, bringing the heart of Arvon’s creative community into your space. We spoke to Claire, a participant from our recent TV Writing Evening Course, to hear about how the online format helped reignite her writing journey, offering structure, connection, and the motivation she had been looking for.
For Claire, the decision to join an Arvon at Home course was driven by a desire to rediscover the spark she’d found on a previous Arvon retreat.
“I’ve been on an Arvon residential course before and was looking for something which might give me the same support and inspiration without having to leave ‘regular life’ so Arvon At Home was perfect and the TV Writing Evening Course fitted the bill so brilliantly.”
What followed was a transformative experience. Over the evening sessions, Claire went from feeling creatively stuck to having a clear and practical way forward with her script.
“Apart from huge inspiration and support, I gained a guided breakthrough in my writing, which was utterly superb and unexpected. It has influenced my writing journey no end. I was stuck before this course, and now have a really workable pathway to get my project to the place I need it to be. I can’t recommend doing something like this more highly.”
One of the key elements of the course’s impact was her connection to fellow writers who were navigating similar challenges.
“It was really great to hear how other writers were battling with the same demons I was battling with. And, of course, sharing in a supportive environment does wonders for one’s confidence. But more than that, I felt that over the weeks we got to understand the projects we were working on and appreciated each other’s work – the feedback was invaluable. Screenwriting felt like a bit of an idle fantasy before the course, but now it feels like I can complete my project. It’s created a huge change to my thinking about my work and I can’t quite believe I achieved that in 5 evenings online!”
The format of the evening course made it easy to engage meaningfully and keep up momentum.
“I liked the format, the timing was perfect — I could finish up the day and settle down to learning in a supportive environment with people who wanted to learn the same things. What’s not to love about that?”
The shift in perspective has extended well beyond the final evening session.
“It’s changed everything for me. Before the course, I had an idea I’d been mulling and trying to move forward with for several years, I’m ashamed to say. The course gave me the tools to implement a structure which I have been able to progress since the course finished.”
So, would Claire recommend Arvon at Home? Without hesitation.
“Absolutely. Regardless of your experience, talking with other writers and sharing learning and stories is a most fabulous way to spend a few evenings.”
Arvon at Home provides a full programme of Writing Weeks, Writing Months (Evening Courses), Masterclasses, Live Readings, one-day sessions, and more — helping writers from all backgrounds find expert tuition that fits their lives.
