Nicky Bull – Lumb Bank Thursday

30 Apr 2019 / #Arvon50

Arvon writers eating together during a course at Lumb Bank

Lumb Bank Thursday
by Nicky Bull

They’re in tonight

The Lumb Bank lot

Lured out like a charmer’s snake

By the promise of local colour

An hour early

They hover

Bees at the bar, buzzing

Settling, to sip their nectar

Our crowd

After first curry

Singly at first, then a team

Thirsty for competition

Quiz Night Nick

At nine pm

Old wrestler’s muscles

Silver crutch and scribbled questions

Our lot win

Again

The losers consoled

With last month’s hot cross buns

#Arvon50

Arvon turned 50 in 2018 and to celebrate we have collected the stories of writers far and wide who have a tale to tell about Arvon. The collection is published in our anniversary book and featured on our blog. This contribution is by Nicky Bull.
