Lumb Bank Thursday
by Nicky Bull
They’re in tonight
The Lumb Bank lot
Lured out like a charmer’s snake
By the promise of local colour
An hour early
They hover
Bees at the bar, buzzing
Settling, to sip their nectar
Our crowd
After first curry
Singly at first, then a team
Thirsty for competition
Quiz Night Nick
At nine pm
Old wrestler’s muscles
Silver crutch and scribbled questions
Our lot win
Again
The losers consoled
With last month’s hot cross buns
