Temporary closure of The Clockhouse, Autumn 2026

2026 marks the 10th anniversary of the opening of The Clockhouse as a dedicated Writers’ Retreat. In this time, our four apartments have accommodated over 1,500 writing weeks, giving writers the opportunity to focus on their work, away from everyday distractions. Now, after 10 years of gentle wear and tear, we must close The Clockhouse for a period of time to attend to some essential external repairs and interior decoration. We are restoring the cupola, repairing all the external doors and windows, re-decorating parts of the interior, and adding some new furnishings. We are very grateful for the generosity of many of our writers in donating toward this important upgrade.

As a result of this work, at the moment we are not able to take bookings for weeks in August, September and October. If you would like to register an interest in coming to The Clockhouse during those months, please contact us. Once we know exactly when we are closing and re-opening we will be able to add in some further retreat weeks.

There is availability at The Clockhouse from now until the end of July for anyone wishing to visit before the closure, offering the perfect chance to make real progress on your writing project.
