Caroline Bird

Caroline Bird is a poet and playwright. Her sixth collection, The Air Year, won the Forward Prize for Poetry 2020 and was shortlisted for the Costa Poetry Prize and the Polari Prize. Her previous collections include In These Days of Prohibition, which was shortlisted for the Ted Hughes Award and the TS Eliot Prize for Poetry in 2017. Caroline’s latest play, The Last Stand of Mrs Mary Whitehouse, starring Maxine Peake, premiered at Nottingham Playhouse in 2025 to critical acclaim. Caroline’s Selected Poems, Rookie, was published by Carcanet in Spring 2022 and her latest collection, Ambush at Still Lake, was published in June 2024. She won a Cholmondeley Award in 2023.
