Marcus Youssef

Marcus Youssef’s plays have been produced in many languages in more than 20 countries on four continents. He is the recipient of Canada’s largest theatre award, The Siminovitch Prize, as well as the Rio-Tinto Alcan Performing Arts Award, Berlin Germany’s Ikarus Prize, and the Chalmer’s Canadian Play Award, among others. As the mixed-race son of an Egyptian father and white American mother, his plays vary wildly in subject and style: a war on terror satire; a performed game about masculinity, competition and class difference; a drama set in the first Gulf War; collaborations with neurodiverse artists; an adaptation of a 60s Egyptian novel about nihilism; and plays for teenagers about race.
