Mark Simpson

Liverpool-born composer and clarinettist Mark Simpson is one of the most intriguing artists on the British music scene. In January 2023 his first piano concerto will be premiered by Vikingur Ólafsson and the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Ed Gardner.  His violin concerto for Nicola Benedetti will be performed by its dedicatee in Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw in spring 2023.  Next season also sees the German premiere of Pleasure, his first opera and creative collaboration with Melanie Challenger. This partnership also saw his oratorio, The Immortal, win a South Bank Sky Arts Award for Classical Music in 2019.  Mark’s recording of his own Geysir and Mozart’s Gran Partita (Orchid Classics) won a Presto Recording of the Year award and was shortlisted for the 2021 Gramophone Awards.
