Mary Ward-Lowery is an audio director and producer. She has won Best Director 2020 and Best Serial 2016 in the BBC Audio Drama Awards, with finalists in other categories including Innovation, Best Drama and Best Actress, twice, for her cast members. Her recent drama serial English Rose by Helen Cross topped the Apple Audio Drama podcast charts two seasons running. Recent and ongoing work includes Sappho in Fragments by Hattie Naylor (‘brilliant’ The Spectator), drama-doc Flixborough 74 by Helen Cross and a reworking of Robinson Crusoe from the perspective of Man Friday, by Edson Burton. Gillian Reynolds has described her work as ‘immaculate…it lit up my radio’. Mary regularly produces audiobooks for Radio 4, recently including novels by Elena Ferrante, Samantha Harvey and Salman Rushdie. She has also abridged and produced work by Alexander Pushkin and Nobel Laureate Jon Fosse. She is the producer of Natalie Haynes Stands up for the Classics. Mary was Jury President for the Audio Drama category in 2022 for the Prix Italia, the international TV, audio and web award.
