Richard Beard

Richard Beard is the author of four books of narrative non-fiction. Formerly Director of The National Academy of Writing in London, he was a Visiting Professor at the University of Tokyo, and has a Creative Writing Fellowship at the University of East Anglia. His 2017 memoir The Day That Went Missing won the 2018 PEN/Ackerley Award for literary autobiography, and was shortlisted for the Folio Prize and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize. Sad Little Men: Private Schools and the Ruin of England was published in 2021.
