What Would You Do If The World Was About To End?

(recommended age: 8-12)

Arvon at Home Workshops for Children and Young People offer online opportunities for creativity and self-expression, outside the curriculum, for young people aged 8 upwards. Completely free of charge, they are pre-recorded, so they can be accessed flexibly from home or the school classroom at any time. Through writing games and exercises, under the guidance of expert tutors in poetry and prose, young writers will have the opportunity to play, explore and use their imaginations. Arvon at Home also offers live sessions during school holidays, so that young people can have the opportunity to ask questions and engage with their favourite writers in real time.

Join best-selling children’s author Emma Carroll as she introduces her new novel The Week at World’s End. She’ll be talking about how her own parents inspired the story, which is set in 1962 during the real-life drama of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Expect old family photos, hits of the sixties, and the chance to ask Emma questions about the book. Plus she’ll be sharing tips and ideas that might inspire you to write your own mystery story.

Emma Carroll’s recent novels, Secrets of a Sun King and Letters from the Lighthouse, have been selected for the coveted Waterstones Book of the Month slot. Other books include Frost Hollow Hall, which won the North East Book Award and The Girl Who Walked on Air which was nominated for the 2014 Carnegie Medal. Her novel Strange Star is a gothic re-telling of how Mary Shelley came to write ‘Frankenstein‘, and was named a Children’s Book of the Year 2016 by the Financial Times. She is published by Faber & Faber.
