The Story Machine: Read and Draw with Tom McLaughlin

(recommended age: 5-11)

Join Tom McLaughlin, illustrator and author of nearly 20 children’s books, for a live reading of his book, The Story Machine. In The Story Machine, a boy named Elliott finds letters hard to contend with until, with the aid of his imagination and a magnifying glass, he notices a picture amongst them. This sets him off on the path to a world of his own story making. Dyslexia is something that’s affected every aspect of Tom McLaughlin’s life, from growing up at school to influencing his books. In this session Tom will talk about his life as an author, writing his stories, live drawing as well as reading from his books. Join in by trying out Tom’s drawing tips, asking him questions about being an author and illustrator and listening to the story.

This live reading is in partnership with Discover Children’s Story Centre. Head over to their website for free resources and an interactive pre-recorded workshop with one of their Story Builders. The reading will be delivered via Zoom and will last 45 minutes. Live captioning and BSL interpretation will also be available. You will need to have a computer or smart device and a reliable internet connection in order to participate. Bookers unable to join the live session will be able to view this Arvon Reading up to two weeks after the event. You must book your place before the event starts in order to access this facility.
