Arvon at Home: Family Live Guest Reading

Reading and Q&A from Robin Stevens via Zoom

Tuesday August 11th 2020, 4:00pm BST

Now more than ever young people need stories – to engage, to entertain, to nourish, and to help us make sense of what we’re living through. And so as part of our Arvon at Home programme, to help children keep their connection with books and reading while away from school, we are bringing you special Live Guest Readings for Families. Some of our most popular writers for children will be reading their stories live and answering your questions (these can be emailed in advance or sent via the Zoom chat box during the event).

This Live Guest Reading is with Robin Stevens on Tuesday 11 August at 4:00pm BST. Robin was born in California and grew up in an Oxford college, across the road from the house where Alice in Wonderland lived. She has been making up stories all her life. When she was twelve, her father handed her a copy of The Murder of Roger Ackroyd and she realised that she wanted to be either Hercule Poirot or Agatha Christie when she grew up. She spent her teenage years at Cheltenham Ladies’ College, reading a lot of murder mysteries and hoping that she’d get the chance to do some detecting herself (she didn’t). She went to university, where she studied crime fiction, and then she worked at a children’s publisher. Robin is now a full-time author, and her books are both award-winning and bestselling.

The reading and interactive Q&A will be hosted on Zoom and it will last 40 minutes. This is a live event and will not be recorded. Participant’s video and microphones will remain off throughout the event.  Questions can be emailed in advance or asked live via the Zoom chat box. These will only be visible to the host, with all other chat functions disabled. We request that an adult is present for any children 12 or younger. See our safeguarding policy here.

Cost: £3.00

Very lovely. It had an intimate feeling despite it being a Zoom event and all of us being in different places.

"Thanks for an excellent session last night. It worked very well on Zoom, especially with the Q&A using the chat function."
