Arvon at Home: Live Guest Reading

Reading and Q&A from Laura Cumming via Zoom

Wednesday October 21st 2020, 7:15pm GMT

Now more than ever we need stories – to engage, to distract, to entertain, to nourish, and to help us make sense of what we’re living through. And so while you can’t come to us, instead we will come to you, bringing a taste of Arvon into your home one night a week. Every week an Arvon tutor will join us as a guest, to read from their own work and answer your questions live and in person online.

This Live Guest Reading is with Laura Cumming on Wednesday 21 October at 7:15 pm BST. Laura Cumming is one of the most celebrated memoirists at work today. Her bestselling, most recent book, On Chapel Sands, was hailed as ‘a modern masterpiece’ by the Guardian and ‘a book bursting with love – love lost and love found, love misunderstood, unsaid and denied’. It was shortlisted for the Costa, Baillie Gifford and Rathbones Folio prizes. Her previous book, The Vanishing Man, praised by the Independent as ‘beautifully compelling’, won the James Tait Black Biography Prize.

The reading and interactive Q&A will be hosted on Zoom. This is a live event and will not be recorded.

We are more committed than ever to helping writers find inspiration, and to make space for their own creativity, no matter the setting. So join us from the comfort of your sofa and listen to writers share their work, the stories behind their work, and invaluable writing advice directly from their own desk (or maybe the kitchen table).

Cost: £5.00

Very lovely. It had an intimate feeling despite it being a Zoom event and all of us being in different places.

"Thanks for an excellent session last night. It worked very well on Zoom, especially with the Q&A using the chat function."

"What a brilliant reading. It was intimate and moving and very listener friendly. I loved it and will be back for more."
