Arvon at Home: Live Guest Reading

Reading and Q&A from Alex Wheatle via Zoom

Wednesday January 27th 2021, 7:15pm GMT

Now more than ever we need stories – to engage, to distract, to entertain, to nourish, and to help us make sense of what we’re living through. And so while you can’t come to us, instead we will come to you, bringing a taste of Arvon into your home one night a week. Every week an Arvon tutor will join us as a guest, to read from their own work and answer your questions live and in person online.

This Live Guest Reading is with Alex Wheatle on Wednesday 27 January at 7:15 pm BST. Alex Wheatle is a multi-award winning writer who has 16 novels (and counting) for young adults. He was awarded an MBE for services to literature in 2008. Alex’s passion for literature and writing began when he spent time in prison in following the Brixton Riots in 1981. His cellmate encouraged him to pursue his education and his desire to write. Alex’s life story was the subject of the fourth film in Steve McQueen’s recent highly acclaimed series of films, Small Axe.

The reading and interactive Q&A will be hosted on Zoom. This is a live event and will not be recorded.

We are more committed than ever to helping writers find inspiration, and to make space for their own creativity, no matter the setting. So join us from the comfort of your sofa and listen to writers share their work, the stories behind their work, and invaluable writing advice directly from their own desk (or maybe the kitchen table).

Cost: £5.00

Very lovely. It had an intimate feeling despite it being a Zoom event and all of us being in different places.

"Thanks for an excellent session last night. It worked very well on Zoom, especially with the Q&A using the chat function."

"What a brilliant reading. It was intimate and moving and very listener friendly. I loved it and will be back for more."
