Arvon at Home: Live Guest Reading

Reading and Q&A with Jamie Hale via Zoom

Wednesday June 2nd 2021, 7:15 BST

Now more than ever we need stories – to engage, to distract, to entertain, to nourish, and to help us make sense of what we’re living through. And so while you can’t come to us, instead we will come to you, bringing a taste of Arvon into your home one night a week. Every week an Arvon tutor will join us as a guest, to read from their own work and answer your questions live and in person online.

This Live Guest Reading is with Jame Hale on Wednesday 2nd June at 7:15pm BST

Jamie Hale is a poet, performer, and multidisciplinary creative. Their work explores interrelationships between criphood, queerness, mortality, nature, and the embodied self. Their first pamphlet, Shield, was published by Verve in Jan 2021, and they have had work published in the Rialto, Magma etc. They took second prize in the 2021 Yale-UCL poetry prize, were a winner in the London Writers’ Awards for poetry, and won the Evening Standard Future Theatre-makers Awards 2021 in the director / theatre-maker category. Their poetry show, NOT DYING, sold out the Barbican in 2019 as part of their disability arts showcase CRIPtic, which they will direct at the Barbican in 2021.

You can find out more about their work at

The reading and interactive Q&A will be hosted on Zoom. This is a live event and will not be recorded.

We are more committed than ever to helping writers find inspiration, and to make space for their own creativity, no matter the setting. So join us from the comfort of your sofa and listen to writers share their work, the stories behind their work, and invaluable writing advice directly from their own desk (or maybe the kitchen table).

Cost: £5.00

Very lovely. It had an intimate feeling despite it being a Zoom event and all of us being in different places.

"Thanks for an excellent session last night. It worked very well on Zoom, especially with the Q&A using the chat function."

"What a brilliant reading. It was intimate and moving and very listener friendly. I loved it and will be back for more."
