Arvon at Home: Live Guest Reading

Reading and Q&A with Elizabeth-Jane Burnett via Zoom

Wednesday May 19th 2021, 19:15 BST

Now more than ever we need stories – to engage, to distract, to entertain, to nourish, and to help us make sense of what we’re living through. And so while you can’t come to us, instead we will come to you, bringing a taste of Arvon into your home one night a week. Every week an Arvon tutor will join us as a guest, to read from their own work and answer your questions live and in person online.

This Live Guest Reading is with Elizabeth-Jane Burnett on Wednesday 19th May at 19:15 BST

Elizabeth-Jane Burnett is a writer and academic. Her debut poetry collection Swims was a Sunday Times Best Poetry Book of the Year and features a poem highly commended in the Forward Prize. Originally from Devon, much of her creative practice is informed by its landscape, and she is a keen wild swimmer and walker. Her most recent book, a nature memoir, is The Grassling. She is Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at Newman University, Birmingham, and is a regular contributor to BBC3’s Free Thinking.

The reading and interactive Q&A will be hosted on Zoom. This is a live event and will not be recorded.

We are more committed than ever to helping writers find inspiration, and to make space for their own creativity, no matter the setting. So join us from the comfort of your sofa and listen to writers share their work, the stories behind their work, and invaluable writing advice directly from their own desk (or maybe the kitchen table).

Cost: £5.00

Very lovely. It had an intimate feeling despite it being a Zoom event and all of us being in different places.

"Thanks for an excellent session last night. It worked very well on Zoom, especially with the Q&A using the chat function."

"What a brilliant reading. It was intimate and moving and very listener friendly. I loved it and will be back for more."
