Surrounded by Stories

(recommended age: 8-12)

It’s fair to say 2020 probably wasn’t the year any of us expected. As we dust ourselves off, with new working environments and home arrangements springing up around us, we find ourselves navigating a world that feels familiar yet also markedly different. The impact of these changes seems to be especially acute for young people, and our new Arvon at Home Workshops for Children and Young People are designed with this in mind. They offer online opportunities for creativity and self-expression, outside the curriculum, for young people aged 8 upwards, whether from their own home or in a school classroom, under the guidance of expert tutors in poetry and prose.

Join Phil Earle, best-selling author of When The Sky Falls as he tells you about his journey from reluctant reader, to author of over twenty books for young people. Phil will also offer top tips on how to turn seemingly humdrum daily occurrences into story gold.

Born and raised in the north of England, Phil is the author of over twenty acclaimed, award-winning books for children and teenagers. His new book, When The Sky Falls became an instant top ten bestseller upon its release. He has worked as a carer, a dramatherapist, a bookseller and a publisher, and loves talking at schools and festivals around the world. He lives on the side of a very steep hill with his partner, their five children and two dogs.

Date: 11:00-11:50, Friday 30th July

Bookers unable to join the live session will be able to view a recording for up to two weeks after the event. You must book your place before the event starts in order to access this facility.
