Arvon at Home Masterclass: Making The Leap to Publication

Zoom masterclass with Sophie Lambert

Thursday August 5th 2021, 11:00 am BST

Are you a budding author eager to find out more about how to make the leap to publication? This masterclass will offer invaluable practical and editorial advice that will take you through the steps towards publication, and in particular the role of the literary agent. Sophie Lambert, director of C&W Agency, represents a wide range of writers of literary and commercial fiction, narrative non-fiction, memoir, travel and nature writing, popular science and history. Her authors include prize-winners and bestsellers such as Guy Gunaratne, Nathan Filer, Sophy Roberts, Tim Spector, Fiona Cummins, Colin Grant, Cal Flyn and Ramita Navai. Sophie will take you through the process of submitting to an agent, how to ensure that your submission stands out, how to know who best to approach and how the relationship between author and agent works.

Sophie always works very closely with authors editorially – from multiple drafts of novels where necessary to helping put together brilliant and enticing non-fiction proposals – and will discuss what is expected and required prior to and post submission. She will demystify the role of the agent, as well as the broader publishing world. She is happy for you to throw all your questions at her, and will come along to the masterclass with several fascinating and different examples of books having made their way from submission through to publication.

The masterclass will be delivered via Zoom and will last two hours (11 am – 1 pm) including time for you to write. You will need to have a computer or smart device and a reliable internet connection in order to participate. This is a live event only and it will not be recorded.

As part of our wider effort to increase participation in the arts, concessionary places are available for this course.

Cost: £35 (concession: £17.50)

"Arvon at Home creates a model to participate in inspirational tutoring for writers, at a distance. The feeling of attending to my writing life in an excellent fashion, and still having a half-day for my work and caring responsibilities at home, felt like a good balance."

"It was an absolutely brilliant session and very very useful. And it made me realise how much I’ve missed this kind of workshop because of having children and family that I can’t leave. Now we’re all in the same boat the online stuff is truly transformative."
