Arvon at Home Masterclass: Poetry

Seeing Nature Slant

Thursday April 14th 2022, 11:00am GMT

Poet and lecturer Seán Hewitt presents a sensory, tactile, and exploratory workshop, aimed at making poems in unfamiliar ways, and making the familiar strange again.

You’ll explore the ways in which nature might be seen from a different angle and the ways that language and form can disrupt the world around you in a productive way.

Looking closely at contemporary poetry you’ll engage with natural objects in order to allow them to break down your syntax, language, and perspective; creating new modes of looking, and of being looked at.

The Masterclass will be delivered via Zoom and will last two hours (11am – 1pm) including time for you to write. It will be recorded and available to view for up to a month after the live event.

As part of our wider effort to increase participation in the arts, half-price concessions are available for this course at checkout. There are a limited number of free subsidised places for those who cannot afford the concession price.

Cost: £35 (concession: £17.50)

"These zoom opportunities are really helping to open my world and keep me inspired to write."

"Arvon at Home creates a model to participate in inspirational tutoring for writers, at a distance. The feeling of attending to my writing life in an excellent fashion, and still having a half-day for my work and caring responsibilities at home, felt like a good balance."

"It was an absolutely brilliant session and very very useful. And it made me realise how much I’ve missed this kind of workshop because of having children and family that I can’t leave. Now we’re all in the same boat the online stuff is truly transformative."
