Arvon at Home: Morgan Parker in Conversation with Rachel Long

Wine, Poetry, and The Ex

Tuesday April 26th 2022, 20:00 GMT

How do we craft all the messiness of love into poetry? Pour a glass of whatever makes you happy and settle in for an evening of real talk with Morgan Parker and Rachel Long, who will be sharing a glass of wine transatlantically, while discussing their influences, the perils of writing about love, sex and dating, and the role and risk of writing The Ex. This season finale celebrates the end of Rachel Long’s tenure as Arvon at Home’s first Writer in Residence.

Morgan Parker is the author of Magical NegroThere Are More Beautiful Things Than Beyoncé, and Other People’s Comfort Keeps Me Up At Night. She lives in Los Angeles, California.

Rachel Long’s debut collection, My Darling from the Lions (Picador 2020 / Tin House 2021) was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best First Collection, The Costa Book Award, The Rathbones Folio Prize, and the Jhalak Prize. She is the founder of Octavia Poetry Collective for women of colour, housed at the Southbank Centre, in London.

The reading and interactive Q&A will be hosted on Zoom. This is a live event and will not be recorded.

Very lovely. It had an intimate feeling despite it being a Zoom event and all of us being in different places.

"Thanks for an excellent session last night. It worked very well on Zoom, especially with the Q&A using the chat function."
