Friday February 18th 2022, 9:45 GMT

Do you have a work in progress for children or young adults? Are you looking to sharpen up your text and create captivating characters? Join award-winning Middle Grade and YA author Joanna Nadin for an intensive ‘Arvon in a day’. Joanna will take a close look at point of view, voice, and language tricks from the art of rhetoric to up your game at a sentence level. She’ll explore how other authors bring captivating characters to the page and really make us care. There will also plenty of writing exercises so you can experiment with using their methods in your own work.

The day will include two workshops with Joanna which will be designed to generate new work as well as to reinvigorate your current project, followed by a session from guest speaker Julia Churchill, head of the children’s book department at literary agency AM Heath. Finally, an hour-long Q&A session will provide the opportunity to ask questions about your own work.

The live event will be hosted on Zoom. It will be recorded and available to view for up to a month after the event.

As part of our wider effort to increase participation in the arts, concessionary places are available for this course.
