Arvon at Home Writing Weekend: Editing Fiction

Honing and Shaping Your Story

Friday April 15th - Sunday April 17th 2022, 18:00 BST

Fired up about your fiction but feel it needs sharpening up? Spend your weekend with writer Cynan Jones and Virago Editorial Director Rose Tomaszewska. Over two intensive days, you’ll learn how to really hone your work, and get your fiction ship-shape.

You’ll also have a one-to-one tutorial with each tutor and a chance to ask questions about key aspects of the editing journey. You’ll come away able to look at your work with fresh eyes and having learned key editing skills to tighten your writing and give your story an edge.

We’ll help you to make ‘Arvon at Home’, turning your own place into a writing cocoon, capturing the transformative power of our acclaimed Arvon residential courses: two brilliant author-tutors at your service, a caring and sharing group, the time and space to devote to your writing, invaluable feedback, new writing pals, and the unique creative progress that happens over a dedicated weekend.

The Arvon Writing Weekends are for those writers whose lives don’t allow an entire week off. Longer than  a Masterclass, shorter than a Writing Week, they are are deep-dives into craft presenting time to write, re-make, and experiment. Over three days, you will explore your words and ideas in a series of interactive workshops, and fine-tune them in focused tutorials with your tutors. Your pages will grow, and so will you as a writer.

All gatherings, one-to-one or group, will be delivered via our own Arvon Zoom, so you’ll need to have a reliable internet connection. Your Arvon host will be on call to offer support as you need it, including any help you may need with your computer set-up.

As part of our wider effort to increase participation in the arts, there are a limited number of concessionary places available for this course.

Dates: Friday 15th April 18.00  — Sunday 17th April 18.00
Cost: £270 (concession: £135)

Grants are available to help with the course fee
