(recommended age: 8+)

Author Polly Ho-Yen will share the process of how she created characters in her new book The Day No One Woke Up and unlock how the richness of our everyday experiences inform our creativity.

Arvon at Home Readings for Children and Young People are designed with freedom in mind: freedom to think and learn. They offer online opportunities for young people aged 8 and upwards to engage with the writing of an established author, and to learn how they go about putting ideas down on the page. Each reading takes place outside of the curriculum and includes a Q&A in which to ask questions. They’re also completely free!

The reading and Q&A will be delivered via Zoom webinar, so you can take the session at your own pace, without the pressure of having your video or camera on. Sessions are also recorded so if you are unable to attend live, you will have access to the recording for a month afterwards.

Cost: Free

Online: Free

If you are able to, donations are encouraged. Suggested donation £5.

I feel much more confident about short stories now! In such a short time I feel I was given such a great overview and the reader/tutor was so generous with their feedback and knowledge.

Very lovely. It had an intimate feeling despite it being a Zoom event and all of us being in different places.
