Tutored Retreat: Editing Fiction

Reshaping and Rethinking Your Novel

Monday March 7th - Saturday March 12th 2022

Totleigh Barton

When is a draft final? How do you know whether it’s time to send your manuscript out or whether it still needs one (or two) more rewrites? Led by editor Ka Bradley and novelist Marcel Theroux, this tutored retreat is designed for people going about the difficult business of editing and rewriting.

Together with your tutors, you’ll consider your project as a whole, discuss its ambitions, scope, themes, potential, and think of ways to tinker with and improve its structure. Ka and Marcel will work closely with you on extracts from the book, sharpening your prose at the level of the line.

There’ll be discussions of technique, character and narrative structure, as well as an overview of the publishing market and industry. You’ll get your work-in-progress in the best possible shape for submission, and zero in on the creative spark that gave rise to your book.
