Essays Short Course

The personal essay – exploring the self, the world and the work

Friday August 14th - Sunday August 16th 2020

Lumb Bank

Over the course of this weekend you will work with two experienced essayists, to develop ideas and techniques suitable for exploring your personal and literary interests. We’ll help you find your subject and work towards what’s most important to you. We’ll talk about finding a place to start, writing when you don’t know the answer, making connections and surprising both the reader and yourself. We’ll explore structure using lists, fragments, life stories and fiction, to enliven and complicate your work and also investigate what methods and techniques an essayist can borrow from poetry, fiction and journalism.

Single room price: £530
