Masterclass: Contemporary Non-Fiction
Other peoples' histories

Would you love to make your workshops more accessible, but feel nervous about where to start? Do you feel excited by the potentially creative possibilities that lie in foregrounding access?
Join Mandy Redvers-Rowe, an experienced Disability Access Consultant, specifically with Arts Organisations, who is also an experienced writer herself (predominantly working in theatre, television and radio) for this professional development session. You will gain practical knowledge as well as building confidence to ensure your creative writing workshops are as inclusive as possible for D/deaf and disabled people.
Mandy will: • Explore simple things that you can do to make your workshops more inclusive • Look at how to work with professional access providers such as BSL Interpreters or Access Support Workers • Examine how in-person and online workshops differ in terms of access considerations • Look at how to problem solve creatively to find exciting ways to make your workshops more inclusive • Discover how having more than one way to engage with your ideas and materials can enrich the experience of all participants
These sessions will be auto-captioned, all images will be described, texts screenshared and the whole session recorded (and available to watch for a month afterwards). If you require BSL interpretation for this session, please email eliza.squire@arvon.org.
The Masterclass will be delivered via Zoom webinar, so you can take the session at your own pace, without the pressure of having your video or camera on. Sessions are also recorded so if you are unable to attend live, you will have access to the recording for a month afterwards.
Online: £35
Concessions: £17.50
As part of our effort to increase participation in the arts, a limited number of half-price concessions are available for this course at checkout. There are a limited number of free subsidised places for those who cannot afford the concession price.

"These zoom opportunities are really helping to open my world and keep me inspired to write."— Masterclass participant
"Arvon at Home creates a model to participate in inspirational tutoring for writers, at a distance. The feeling of attending to my writing life in an excellent fashion, and still having a half-day for my work and caring responsibilities at home, felt like a good balance."— Masterclass participant
"It was an absolutely brilliant session and very very useful. And it made me realise how much I’ve missed this kind of workshop because of having children and family that I can’t leave. Now we’re all in the same boat the online stuff is truly transformative."— Masterclass participant
