Masterclass: The Poetry of Prose
Setting your prose alight
We live our lives steeped in pop culture: bingeing the latest boxsets and podcasts, going for walks with our personal soundtracks playing. . . The sheer pervasiveness of pop culture demands our attention as poets, and this Masterclass will show you how Coleridge’s “profound philosopher” may be found anywhere, from Ted Lasso to the cast of Love Island. Taught by Chrissy Williams, the first part will look at how other poets have reflected pop culture in their poems, while the second will share clips and set exercises that invite you to generate your own pop culture-infused work, following Morgan Parker’s maxim: “If I’m going to write poetry, it has to reflect who I am and the things that are making up my world.”
