Masterclass: Insights from an Agent

Zoom Masterclass with Lucy Luck
  • Lucy Luck
Date Tuesday June 7th 2022, 19:00 - 21:00 BST
Location Online

Are you a budding writer eager to find out more about how to make the leap to publication? This masterclass will offer invaluable practical and editorial advice that will take you through all the steps, and in particular the role of the literary agent. Lucy Luck, senior agent at C&W Agency, is renowned for her passionate advocacy for her writers, who include shortlistees and winners of the Booker Prize, the Guardian First Book Award, the Irish Book Award, the Costa First Novel Award, the EFG Sunday Times Short Story Prize and the Rathbones Folio Prize, amongst others.

Lucy will take you through the process of submitting to an agent, how to ensure that your submission stands out, how to know who best to approach and how the relationship between author and agent works. Lucy works very closely with her authors, and she will discuss what is expected and required prior to and post submission, demystifying the role of the agent, as well as the broader publishing world. She is happy for you to throw questions at her, and she will come along to the masterclass with several different examples of books having made their way from submission through to publication.

The Masterclass will be delivered via Zoom webinar (19:00-21:00), so you can take the session at your own pace, without the pressure of having your video or camera on. Sessions are also recorded so if you are unable to attend live, you will have access to the recording for a month afterwards.

"These zoom opportunities are really helping to open my world and keep me inspired to write."

"Arvon at Home creates a model to participate in inspirational tutoring for writers, at a distance. The feeling of attending to my writing life in an excellent fashion, and still having a half-day for my work and caring responsibilities at home, felt like a good balance."
— Masterclass participant
"It was an absolutely brilliant session and very very useful. And it made me realise how much I’ve missed this kind of workshop because of having children and family that I can’t leave. Now we’re all in the same boat the online stuff is truly transformative."
