In this masterclass, award-longlisted non-fiction writer Alice Vincent will explore how to elevate memoir and non-fiction by combining the two to transform your own story into a broader narrative. In ‘Rootbound, Rewilding a Life’ and ‘Why Women Grow: Stories of Sisterhood, Soil and Survival’, Alice blends writing about her own life with that of the stories of others – from teenage Victorian pteridomiacs and Arts and Crafts-era gamechangers to anonymous women whose stories hold power and resonance. This masterclass will inspire you to see your own stories in a new light, embolden you to tell them and offer the insight and conviction to establish how to connect your own narratives most effectively with other non-fiction sources and research. During the two-hour session, Alice will explain how to pull together relevant research, offer exercises to isolate the most powerful parts of your story and help you to find the connective tissue to weave the two together. You will leave the session with a new understanding of your work-in-progress and with new tools and techniques to move forward.

The Masterclass will be delivered via Zoom webinar, so you can take the session at your own pace, without the pressure of having your video or camera on. Sessions are also recorded so if you are unable to attend live, you will have access to the recording for a month afterwards.

"These zoom opportunities are really helping to open my world and keep me inspired to write."

"Arvon at Home creates a model to participate in inspirational tutoring for writers, at a distance. The feeling of attending to my writing life in an excellent fashion, and still having a half-day for my work and caring responsibilities at home, felt like a good balance."
— Masterclass participant
"It was an absolutely brilliant session and very very useful. And it made me realise how much I’ve missed this kind of workshop because of having children and family that I can’t leave. Now we’re all in the same boat the online stuff is truly transformative."
