Masterclass: Historical Fiction
Inhabiting the past in your writing
In this masterclass, award-winning writer and nature lover Jack Wallington will explore the connections between the outdoors, gardening and writing through a series of exercises and provocations. From the seeding of the initial idea to developing a regular writing habit, Jack will share his insights into showing and telling, and ways of expressing complex ideas more simply. This class is suitable for anyone with an interest in writing practically and clearly with the aim of inspiring others to enjoy time outdoors gardening or learning about wildlife. Also if you simply want to explore new ways of communicating or writing about something you love for fun.
For the live session, Jack suggested participants could go for a walk a day or so before the class; a very short walk in the garden or a longer walk around town or the countryside. They were asked to make a few notes about what they did, what they saw in their head or noted on a scrap of paper.
