Rediscover your writing mojo on this practical course with two experienced tutors, who will help you strengthen the skills you need to push on with your work-in-progress. Whether you are working on short or long form fiction, we will support you as you deepen your engagement with – and your enthusiasm for – the work. Through discussions, exercises, sample texts and one-to-ones, fiction writers Jacob Ross and Vanessa Gebbie will inspire and challenge you, as they help you bring out the very best in your writing. By the end of the course you will have gained a better understanding of the approaches and techniques that deliver dramatic writing, including plot and structure and vibrant characterisation. You will also have a better understanding of yourself as a creative being. If this course is for you, please send us a 1,500 word extract from your project, and a 500-word synopsis, by Monday 8th May to arvonathome@arvon.org with ‘Submission for Vanessa Gebbie and Jacob Ross evening course’ as the subject line.

Do you want to commit time to your writing but can only manage a couple of hours a week? Would you like a writing boost and a network of writing buddies? Then join us for this Arvon Evening Course which unpacks our popular 5-day online writing week over 5 weeks of evening classes. Each week, your tutors will deliver a workshop designed to propel your writing forward, with one-to-one tutorials offered mid-course, alongside tutor readings and weekly socials.  You will develop a regular writing routine and come away from the course with a whole new network of contacts and companions for your writing years ahead.
