Online 5-Week Evening Course: Writing the Body
Embodied place writing
The writer/director Taika Waititi once said, ‘Sometimes writing is opening up your laptop, looking at a blank page on Final Draft for about 8 hours, and then feeling sad and closing it.’ He’s right. This course hopes to make those days few and far between. If you have a stalled script, if you’ve run out of inspiration or lost your way with your writing, this is the course for you. Join award-winning screenwriters Simon Block and Claire Bennett as they guide you through examples and exercises designed to re-ignite your passion for your work. You’ll cover character development, structure and dialogue, how to move through drafts, and navigating the complexities of the television industry. By the end you’ll have fallen back in love with your writing, moving closer to taking your work from script to screen.
Please send a writing sample of no more than 10 pages of a TV drama script-in-progress and a page outlining your current project, any previous writing credits and what you hope to get from the course. Please send this material to arvonathome@arvon.org by Thursday 24th October at the latest.
Then join us for our Online Five-week Evening Course which works alongside your life by offering all contact time on Monday evenings (with some tutorials/social time on a Tuesday evening). Each week there will be evening workshops designed to move you and your writing forward. You will also be offered a one-to-one tutorial with each tutor + a free pass to all readings and masterclasses happening elsewhere at Arvon at Home.
Whether you feel you can commit just two hours a week, or more, you will come away from this course with a regular writing routine and a whole new network of contacts and companions for your writing years ahead.
