Due to popular demand, we are re-running our Poetry of Dreams course with Caroline Bird and Rachel Long, but in our new Online Evening format!

“And the dream has a pain in its heart/ the wonders of which are manifold/ or so the story is told.” –  James Tate

We are all poets in our sleep: the hopes and anxieties of our daily lives are translated, nightly, into surrealism in order to keep us sane; emotions are translated into images. Yet, as waking adults, such creative permission is a constant struggle, we are forever trying to write with a sliver of the freedom we naturally wield in our dreams. On this course, we will mine our dreams for their poetic potential, dissect our night-time narratives and ask, what are the metaphoric possibilities of this dream? What is happening here, in terms of logic and image, that could be strange, exciting and electric for my writing? Do not expect wafty ramblings around a campfire. Do expect to be surprised by your own imagination, and to write an absurd amount of new poems.

This course is only open to poets who have not previously attended Caroline and Rachel’s course on Dreams.

Do you want to commit time to your writing but can only manage a couple of hours a week? Would you like a writing boost and a network of writing buddies? Each week, your tutors will deliver a workshop designed to propel your writing forward, with one-to-one tutorials offered mid-course, alongside tutor readings, weekly socials and  ‘How I Write’ sessions with guest writers.
