Online Writing Week: Fiction Work-in-Progress
Focus on the Craft

Writers are made through practice and passion: as someone once said, ‘all you have to do is sit at your typewriter/laptop, open your veins, and bleed’. Whether you are thinking about starting a novel or have already begun, this session with award-winning novelist and short story writer Ingrid Persaud will be less about pain, and more about exploration. You’ll learn fresh approaches to building characters, plot development and convincing dialogue, and talk about where ideas come from in the first place. Most of all, you’ll learn how to express yourself in your own unique writer’s voice. You will leave with your confidence boosted, ready to roll up your sleeves and hit the keyboard.
Note: The guest speaker for this Writing Day is Lisa Baker, Director of the literary agency Aitken Alexander.
To make the event as accessible and flexible as possible, all sessions of the day are delivered live via Zoom webinar. You have the choice to attend each session live, which will mean you can contribute via the chatbox, or you can watch the recordings of each session at any time over the course of the following month. Please note, your camera and audio will not be visible/audible, allowing you to relax and take the day at your own pace.
