A good writer will always have a plan, but what if the plan isn’t working?  Might you be prepared to throw it away/put it to one side and improvise? Over the course of this generative and interactive writing day, journalist, artist, writer and master of improvisation, JP Flintoff will share his creative tools with you. JP has published 7 books, has written for and edited the Financial Times and Sunday Times magazines and is also an artist and a performer.

JP will offer advice on:

  1. Bringing people and settings to life
  2. How to use closely observed detail as a way of driving your story forward
  3. How to be playful with your story and explore ways of structuring a narrative drawn from life
  4. Using techniques drawn from illustration and improvisational theatre to power through stumbling blocks and lead you out of rabbit holes
