“Nothing should supplant the true act of discovery” – James Tate

Do you ever write a poem, get to the last line, and think “that’s not the end but I don’t know why?” Join Caroline Bird for this one-day course all about generating new material that pushes past the ‘neat’ finale (that maybe tells you something you already know) and swerves into un-chartered territory. Caroline will be setting you lots of writing exercises, especially designed to push you further… past the finish line, to a place where the poem might surprise you.

The day will include two workshops with Caroline which will be designed to generate new work as well as to reinvigorate your current poems, followed by a talk from guest poet Kim Addonizio and a Q&A session at the end of the day when you will have the opportunity to ask questions about your own work.

Caroline says:

“Together, we will go forth – boldly – out into that wilderness of the blank page. Some poems will fail, heroically. Some will succeed, and hurt. Some might succeed, hurt and feel heroic. Who knows? But we have one day! Just one. But, as with a single poem, everything can change in a day.
