Non-fiction is a broad term, and experienced and multi award-winning tutors Wyl Menmuir and Tiffany Murray will explore and celebrate the various forms of this thrilling genre with you, opening new possibilities for your writing.

Whether you are embarking on a memoir, biography or another form or narrative non-fiction, this course will give you the space and inspiration to experiment and access your stories and to consider the forms in which you might tell them.

You will explore ways of writing vividly about people, place, and the objects that define our lives. You will study and practice a range of techniques, from researching and structuring material through to the arts of writing prose that engages, moves and entertains. In workshop exercises and one-to-one tutorials with Wyl and Tiffany, you will be given the space and confidence to experiment with your writing, to make new discoveries and push forward to the next stage.

Please see the detailed course timetable here.

Is this course for me?

Our month-long courses are aimed at writers who have a specific goal in mind for the month. This might be to begin their writing journey, to make progress on a work-in-progress, or to kickstart a commitment to their writing going forward.

These courses are often attended by writers who:

What will I gain?

How does it work?

The month kicks off with an introductory session to get to know you and to ensure we meet your individual writing needs, as well as the chance to meet the other writers in the group. Then each week for the next month there will be evening workshops on Tuesdays designed to move you and your writing forward. You will also be offered one-to-one tutorials with each tutor + a free pass to all readings and masterclasses happening elsewhere at Arvon at Home.

A more detailed timetable can be found here.

‘For anyone deciding whether to attend one of Arvon’s courses, here’s my advice: Do it. The month long course was brilliant. You’ll receive constructive feedback on your work from your tutors and the other participants. At the end of the month, you’ll be inspired to write more and on top of that, you’ll have a new writing community to support you going forward. Arvon are excellent.’ —Rose
