Do you have real-life experiences that you would like to turn into a book? If you have ideas but you’re unsure how to move forward, then this week with acclaimed memoirists Lily Dunn and Miranda Doyle is for you.

Memoirists need to think like novelists when it comes to characterisation, dialogue and creating a sense of time, place and atmosphere. On this course, in online workshops and one-to-one tutorials, you will learn tools and techniques for excavating the self and bringing your stories to life on the page, as well as examining other writers in this genre, as we guide you in the long journey of turning raw material into crafted narrative.

In a month that will be supportive, productive, creative and fun, you will be given the space to fall in love with your writing, and the inspiration to carry on.

Please note, this is a direct repeat of Lily and Mo’s course in September 2025.

Is this course for me?

Our month-long courses are aimed at writers who have a specific goal in mind for the month. This might be to begin their writing journey, to make progress on a work-in-progress, or to kickstart a commitment to their writing going forward.

These courses are often attended by writers who:

What will I gain?

How does it work?

The month kicks off with an introductory session to get to know you and to ensure we meet your individual writing needs, as well as the chance to meet the other writers in the group. Then each week for the next month there will be evening workshops on Tuesdays designed to move you and your writing forward. You will also be offered one-to-one tutorials with each tutor + a free pass to all readings and masterclasses happening elsewhere at Arvon at Home.

A more detailed timetable can be found below.

‘For anyone deciding whether to attend one of Arvon’s courses, here’s my advice: Do it. The month long course was brilliant. You’ll receive constructive feedback on your work from your tutors and the other participants. At the end of the month, you’ll be inspired to write more and on top of that, you’ll have a new writing community to support you going forward. Arvon are excellent.’ —Rose
