Screenwriting: Feature Film Bootcamp

Monday March 21st - Saturday March 26th 2022

The Hurst

Do you want to take your feature film screenplay to the next level? Having a good idea is only half of the battle; knowing who your film is for and how to make it a reality is often the hardest thing to grasp.

Between them, tutors Samm Haillay and Sophie Mathisen have over 30 years industry experience including: writing, directing, producing and distribution. They’re able to offer a holistic yet script-focused approach for your screen projects.

Ideal for both debut screenwriters and those with more experience in feature film, you’ll be given diagnostic tools to test the structure of your screenplay, you’ll share table reads and explore examples that will help you bring your ideas to life. You’ll learn about the necessary preparation for undertaking a feature script and best practice when doing so, and the business that wraps round the writing. There’ll also be time for development of fresh projects.

You are invited to submit a one-page synopsis and the first 10 pages of your screenplay to thehurst@arvon.org by Friday 4th March.

Saturday

The week comes to a close after breakfast. Have a tissue handy to say your farewells to the group.

“I arrived at the beginning of the week wondering whether I might be a writer or even if I could write. But when I left, not only did I feel I could write, I knew that’s what I was going to do next.”

—Piers Torday

“It is invaluable to writers at an early stage to have this feedback on their work. Many people on my course said that they wished that they had received this type of input earlier in their career – that it might have borne fruit and improved their success. It also provides time to think – in an over complicated world it is hard to carve time for yourself against the requirements of work, family, and daily chores. Arvon was a breath of fresh creative air.”

—Penny Clark

“Both courses I attended have had a massive impact on my writing, and been part of the motivation and encouragement I needed to begin working professionally as a writer.”
