A good short story is gloriously deceptive. Within its limited word count is a complete world inhabited by living, breathing characters whose lives open up to us for a pivotal moment. Building stories is a challenging process – we will work together to unravel some of the mysteries of this most fantastic form, supporting you as you create your own unforgettable characters, vibrant settings and wonderful stories. This packed few days at beautiful Lumb Bank will enrich and sharpen your writing skills. Designed for beginners to intermediates, more experienced writers will also benefit and be most welcome.

The Ted Hughes Arvon Centre, Lumb Bank is an 18th-century millowners house in West Yorkshire, which once belonged to Ted Hughes. It’s set in 20 acres of steep woodland with breathtaking views to the valley below.
Arrive at lunchtime, afternoon workshop, after dinner the tutors read from their own work.
