Rebecca May Johnson is a writer of essays and nonfiction and an experienced teacher of creative writing in workshops and on university degrees. Her debut book of nonfiction Small Fires, An Epic in the Kitchen was published by Pushkin Press in the UK in August 2022 and the US in June 2023 and was shortlisted for Foyles Nonfiction Book of the Year 2022 and was described in the Sunday Times as ‘a manifesto for reclaiming cooking as an intellectual’. She is an editor at the food publication Vittles. She has a PhD in contemporary German literature from UCL, which was published as a book in 2019.
