Miranda France

Miranda France is the prize-winning author of five books, encompassing memoir, fiction, non-fiction and reportage, as well as a translator from Spanish and a consultant editor at the Times Literary Supplement. Her work has won the Shiva Naipaul Award for travel writing in The Spectator and has been shortlisted for the Thomas Cook Award. Her translation of Claudia Piñeiro’s Thursday Night Widows was shortlisted for the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize. Miranda’s memoir The Writing School, which considers events following a family tragedy in the context of a writing course, also doubles as a guide to researching and shaping creative non-fiction.

Miranda’s writing is often praised for its humour as well as its originality and eloquence. It has been published in publications including the Guardian, The Telegraph, The Spectator and Literary Review. An experienced teacher, she is currently a guest tutor on Goldsmiths Creative Writing M.A.
