Online Writing Day: Write a Short Play in a Day
From idea to script
Leave the world behind and escape to Totleigh Barton for a week free of interruptions.
Give your writing the time and focus it needs, whatever stage your project is at, with all day to yourself and near-infinite supplies of tea and cake on hand. When you’re in need of a break, take a walk through glorious Devon countryside or curl up by the fire with a book. Then spend the evenings with like-minded people for dinner and lively discussion. An untutored writing retreat is all about you.
There are no tutors or midweek guests; no distractions but the occasional owl. Apart from shared meal times, your days are yours to structure as you see fit.
The House
Totleigh Barton, the first ever Arvon centre, is a 16th-century manor house in one of the most peaceful and idyllic parts of Devon. It features 14 single rooms and shared bathrooms. There is a wheelchair-accessible bedroom with en-suite bathroom. Totleigh Barton lies two miles from the village of Sheepwash, with walks along the River Torridge nearby. There is a beautiful and productive garden and quiet spaces on-site for writing, including a pod in the garden often used for one-to-one tutorials. There’s an orchard on-site where we grow plentiful crops of fruit.
All rooms are single occupancy:
£895 per person (£619.50 concessions).
Participants will be asked to help cook one evening meal during the week with a group of other attendees. Menus, ingredients, and support from house staff provided.

Physical Access at Totleigh Barton:
We do not currently recommend this house if you are a wheelchair user. Totleigh Barton is a sixteenth-Century manor house and has many steps and tight corners.
