Online Writing Week: Poetry
Poetry and its Hinterland
Join professor David Morley as he becomes the latest tutor to take part in Arvon’s How to Teach Creative Writing Masterclass series. Whether you are a poet yourself looking for professional development or a teacher in a secondary school or college wanting a boost of creative inspiration, this Masterclass is aimed at anyone interested in developing their skills in, and enjoyment of, teaching poetry to adults or young people.
At the heart of Arvon is the belief that creative writing is a craft that can be taught. But how do you teach creative writing? And even more excitingly, how do you invent a workshop that is entirely yours? Your exercises. Your games. Your energy. Creating and leading a workshop is a creative, personal act, and can be just as original and fulfilling as the writing itself. It can also make you a better writer and reignite your own wonder and passion, as well as expanding your support network of creative peers.
In this series of Masterclasses, we will discuss (amongst many other things) the inexhaustible well of untapped writing exercises in the world, how to structure a workshop around a theme and how to fuel, compile and infuse a workshop with an energy that is nobody else’s but your own.
